Welding Automation and Robotics

The future of welding is here, and nexAir is here to help you Forge Forward!

Automated welding, or robotic welding, is a process that can take the human hand out of the equation when it comes to manufacturing and welding. Automated welding results in a better weld quality, a higher output of product, and significantly less waste, or scrap. Over time, production and labor costs can also decrease substantially. At nexAir, we have the KnowHow to assist with customizing the welding process to work most efficiently for you!

When it comes to automatic welding, there are typically two different methods: fully automatic welding and semi-automatic welding. In a fully automatic welding process, the machine, or robot, is programmed to move the material by itself from the beginning to the end. This way, fully automatic welding methods require no human assistance. However, a semi-automatic welding process requires an operator to load and remove the metal once welding is complete. With either method, robotic welding decreases the need for labor and increases output by working for longer hours, more efficiently!

What are the pros and cons of robotic welding? For starters, with an automatic welder, a better weld quality is achieved by using internal process controllers. The robotic welder is programmed to perform the same action repeatedly, leading to consistent, more accurate welds and far less scrap. There is little room for human error typically seen with manual welding. Also, automatic welding performs at a much faster rate than humans, leading to a significantly increased output.

The initial cost of an automatic welding process may seem costly or expensive and may take time to recoup, but it can be worth it in the long run, especially if your facility has a higher output. After the automatic welder is installed, the cost of labor will decrease with less human workers needed to manually weld and facilitate the robotics. However, if the automatic welder needs to be reconfigured for a new project, it can be costly or timely to change the programming, but not with nexAir! We have the KnowHow to keep your operation running smoothly. Contact our experts for more information on what robotic welding can do for you!

Automatic welding can be customized to efficiently complete any project, however most automatic welding works best for projects that need to be very precise and are very repetitive in nature. Robotic welding can also be used to effectively weld in places that can be dangerous for humans, like small spaces inside of ships or on a very tall building. Some examples of products that can be manufactured with robotic welding include sensors, pipe fittings, light bulbs and more.
