Located in Mountain View, AR, Excel Boats is one of the nation’s premier aluminum boat manufacturers. nexAir has been supplying the company with welding hardgoods and industrial gases since 2009. Leveraging the nexAir team’s expertise, the two companies work together to enhance weld procedure and increase production and quality.
Excel Boats raised concern about excess spatter, prompting nexAir’s Territory Manager to recommend a transition to Hobart 4943 aluminum wire. The new wire’s lower melting point better suited the company’s setup, reducing the heat required for welding, decreasing reliance on cooling spray, minimizing sweat lines, and preventing arc-outs. The result was cleaner, more consistent welds with less post-weld cleanup. Overall, the switch led to less rework and material waste as well as a higher standard of finished product – achieving the Excel team’s goals for the project.
Introducing Excel Boats to Miller’s Profile Pulse welding feature pushed efficiencies even further. Adjusting the setting delivered faster, more uniform welds over long stretches with minimal preparation. Building on prior results, the company refined its weld procedure, which yielded a more effective and reliable welding system. The Weld Lead at Excel Boats shared, “We are now producing higher quality products and encountering fewer struggles to achieve our pull times. The upgrades have helped us pull an extra boat or two off the line every week.”
With the right procedures in place, Excel Boats continues to partner with nexAir to remain competitive and build at the highest level. The local Territory Manager stated, “With the knowledge and patience of our specialists, the transition was seamless. Having that depth of internal expertise to draw on makes all the difference. Excel Boats has adapted well, continuing to build one of the best boats on the market.”
