Ar
Argon Gas (Ar) Supplier
Argon (Ar) is a colorless, odorless, non-reactive inert gas. Argon is the third most abundant gas in the Earth’s atmosphere and is generally sourced by separating air and then purifying it to produce the commercial purity grade required for use. Argon is available in liquid and gaseous forms.Â
Industrial Uses
Aerospace
Argon (Ar) is a versatile industrial gas, making it an ideal substance for welding special alloys. This gas is also used in the production of lightbulbs and lasers. Because argon is an inert gas, it can be used in the absence of oxygen and nitrogen for heat treating processes.
Automotive
When used with other gases, argon (Ar) is used to weld auto parts and frames. Argon can also provide an oxygen-free and nitrogen-free environment for annealing processes and is essential in the production of airbags.
Construction
Argon (Ar) is used to fill the spaces between double and triple paned windows. These types of windows are known as "gas fills". Argon does not conduct heat as well as air, so it's an excellent insulator. Gas filled windows also prevent a buildup of frost at the bottom of the window during cold weather.
Food & Beverage
Inert gases such as argon (Ar) are essential to manage the headspace of wine containers because they protect wine against oxidation and spoilage by yeast or bacteria. Argon is only 38% soluble in wine, which makes it an ideal protective gas.
Welding & Metal Fabrication
The most common use for argon (Ar) is as a shielding gas for arc welding. Argon in its pure form is used for MIG and TIG welding of non-ferrous materials. It is also most commonly used in TIG welding for both carbon and low-alloy steels because of its versatility.
