How Does Automated Welding Work?

How does Automated Welding work?

Automated welding can allow your business to gain more than just a little extra profit – we’re talking significant gains in profit, productivity and the overall quality of your weld.

While working with automated welding seems easier and less complex, it is still important to make sure you and your team are fully educated and trained on the system beforehand. At nexAir, we believe the education of a product or service is crucial to the success of a project and we have plenty of experience and KnowHow to help you Forge Forward in all the tasks you take on. Keep reading to learn a bit more about how automated welding works.

What is Automated Welding?

Welding automation can be defined as the use of mechanized programmable tools that can completely, or partially, automate the welding process – meaning it does the weld and handles the part. There are different types of automated welding, each suitable for different situations and tasks. For example, automated welding can typically be broken down into two categories: fixed welding automation and flexible welding automation. Fixed welding uses a machine to make repeatable motions to create simple, repetitive parts. Flexible welding is a robotic system that can complete multiple welds, with multiple parts. This is best for those projects that need to get done fast but still precise.

How Automated Welding Works

Automated welding can be a simple, yet complex process. However, once you and your team are properly trained on handling the equipment, tasks that usually took time and a high level of attention are significantly reduced. Here’s how it works.

The main focus of automated welding is ensuring that you have the correct programming and software ready to go for each project. Before automating your welding, it is important to be familiar with your strategies and techniques. That way, you are aware of what your goals and needs are before introducing a new tool to your team. Once you have the software installed and updated with the exact measurements, the robot can take most of the hands-on work from there. With automated welding, all processes can be controlled with the pre-programmed data – making the tasks themselves less work on you ( it’s a win, win for all involved). However, certified operators still need to remain close by. The operators will program the controller, setting new programs – which then move the arm and changes the parameters for the process. You can still rest assured, that safety measures are still taken, leaving automated welding just as safe (if not safer) than the typical welding processes.

Automated welding is constantly evolving and becoming a favorite technique amongst welders and fabricators. Once trained properly to operate the system, welders can expect a simpler, quicker and less stressful process. At nexAir, we are proud to provide our customers with the latest equipment and training to make their lives just a bit easier.
