One of Memphis’ largest private companies is expanding in the Mid-South. Industrial and medical gas distributor nexAir plans to increase its presence to better serve parts of Kentucky and West Tennessee.
Bill Proctor, president of nexAir LLC, told MBJ that the company plans to build a new, 4,000-square-foot facility in Calvert City on about two acres of land. The expansion will mark nexAir’s second location in Kentucky. The facility near Paducah is slated to open in early 2022, he said.
The company currently has a location in Cave City, Kentucky. The new Calvert City building will replace a temporary facility the company occupies near Kentucky Dam.
“As our customer base and our operating territory continues to grow, we need to ensure the nexAir footprint has the capacity to meet those expanding demands,” Proctor said. “Adding this presence in Calvert City allows us to better serve those customers in the Northwestern portion of our territory.”
“The distribution and production facility that will come online later this year will help nexAir continue to centralize our truck routing in the area,” Proctor said. “This facility will also help back fill any cylinder production that is needed to support our customers in northwest Tennessee and southwest Kentucky. This is an expanding market for nexAir, and we want to be in a position to support our new customers in the region at the same level we serve our customers in our more established markets.”
According to Proctor, nexAir has close to 750 employees, including 230 in the Memphis area.
The company ranked No. 35 on MBJ’s Top 100 Private Companies based on gross revenue of $274.3 million in 2020, according to MBJ research. NexAir has 73 locations across eight states, including in Tennessee, Arkansas, Mississippi, Alabama, Florida, Georgia, and Kentucky.
