South Sunflower County Hospital: Bulk Renovation

by | Dec 9, 2024

In March of 2024, South Sunflower County Hospital in Indianola, MS contacted nexAir about a potential facility upgrade. This general acute care hospital has been serving the diverse population of the Mississippi Delta community since 1939, continuously enhancing its systems to meet the evolving needs of its patients. Dedicated to excellent quality care, the hospital sought to increase its oxygen supply to ensure its community would have access to superior care in any situation.

Its previous supplier of 20 years advised South Sunflower to complete all upgrades – including removing the current equipment, pouring a new tank pad, re-piping the facility, and installing the new tanks within a 45-day window. However, this timeline was not feasible for the hospital’s needs and posed significant costs for an urgent installation.

When the nexAir Territory Manager learned of their situation and completed an on-site walkthrough, she presented all their options. After discussing the details with the South Sunflower team, they determined that connecting a temporary vessel to the facility during the renovation was the best solution. This approach ensured no interruptions to service and provided ample time for the upgrades to be completed.

Once the previous supplier removed the old equipment, the nexAir team started renovations within the same week. With the temporary oxygen vessel already in place, nexAir assisted with logistics such as demolishing the former tank pad and cementing a new one to support a 3000-gallon tank and 500-gallon reserve tank that could accommodate continual facility growth.

By August, the renovation project was completed, saving South Sunflower County Hospital significant costs and supporting uninterrupted care for the community. As stated by the South Sunflower team, “Our team was introduced to nexAir via another vendor we collaborate with. nexAir was able to quickly identify a solution that was not only cost effective but also allowed us to make the necessary upgrades in a realistic timeline, eliminating any interruptions to our service during the entire process.” Now set up for future growth, the hospital continues to serve its community with the utmost care.
